Which Mac Should You Buy? MacBook vs Air vs Pro

Hey guys what’s up? It’s Andy. This is one of the most frequently asked questions
on my channel that people ask me and that is, “Which Mac should I buy?” and since I
review a lot of Apple products and since my most popular video is my MacBook Air review
from last year, I figured I’d do a video that’s dedicated to this question to help you decide
which Mac to buy and which one will be the best fit for you. So this video is only dedicated to the Apple
laptops, so all the MacBooks. It’s not going to go over the desktops. If you want a video like that just leave it
in the comments and request it below and I’ll try to do one in the future. So which MacBook should you buy? Well first of all we have to know what MacBooks
are out there now. Apple just announced the new MacBook earlier
this week so now the MacBook family consists of the regular MacBook, the MacBook Air and
the MacBook Pro. So I’m going to go over each model’s main
features and specs and then briefly explain to you which person that that is best suited
for. Alright so let’s kick off this list with the
brand new MacBook. This MacBook will be available in April 2015
and the base model starts at $1299. This is the first MacBook to be available
in the 3 different colors: silver, gold and space gray just like the iPads and iPhones. It sports a 12 inch IPS Retina display with
3 million pixels. It has an Intel Core M mobile processor inside
along with 8 GB of RAM and at least 256 GB of flash storage. So who is this MacBook for exactly? Well it’s for a very small target market. This MacBook is for you if you meet any of
these following conditions. If you just want the latest Apple product
just because it’s the newest and the latest and you just got to have it and you want the
newest latest Apple features on a laptop. This one is sporting that Force Touch Trackpad
which is brand new. It also has the new butterfly mechanism keyboard. So if you just want those brand new features,
then yeah you’re going to get this laptop. If you care about looks more than performance,
this thing is sexy, no questions about it. I mean it’s got the Retina display. It comes in those colors so if you want that
gold, you want to get that gold? And really the looks of it is one of its best
features because it does lack in performance. Also if you want something that is ultra portable
and ultra mobile. This is Apple’s thinnest and lightest laptop
to date. It weighs just over 2 lbs and it has a 9 hour
battery life. If you’re running basic applications like
web browsing, email, office suites, productivity software, anything like that that’s really
basic and nothing too CPU intensive because this does have that Intel core M mobile processor
which is not very powerful at all. It’s made for mobile devices so if you’re
just doing basic applications it should be fine for you. If you don’t use a lot of USB devices or other
external devices, such as SD cards, you don’t need to hook up your camera or charge you
iPhone or iPad a lot or you don’t care about not having the ability to do that or even
connecting to an external monitor because the MacBook only has one port and that is
a USB Type C port. So you’re not going to have access to any
of those other ports unless you have an adapter which they’re pretty expensive if you buy
it from Apple. So you only have that one USB C port for charging,
input and output. If you don’t Skype or Face Time or you don’t
need to record HD videos using your webcam because this has a 480p web cam on it, not
even 720p. If you want a laptop that mostly resembles
an iPad, this is it. If most of your documents and data and your
digital life is pretty much all wireless and on the cloud. And finally if you have the budget for it. This thing is really expensive for what you
get. $1299 for the low performance that you get
but it is the brand newest and thinnest, lightest, so you’re sacrificing performance and power
for the sexiness of it. So if any of those things describes you, you
might want to think about getting the new MacBook. Now moving on to the MacBook Air. The MacBook Air comes in two different sizes,
11 inch starting at $899 and the 13 inch starting at $1399. It does not have an IPS Retina display. It comes with 4 GB of RAM, can be upgraded
to 8 GB and 128 GB of flash storage which can be upgraded to 256 GB. The MacBook Air has the 5th Generation Intel
Core i5 dual core processors which can be upgraded to i7. So a MacBook Air would be best for you if
you meet these following conditions. If you want a small, thin and lightweight
laptop. If you’re always on the go, if you’re a student,
or you travel a lot. I still think this one of the best laptops
for students and travelers. I actually did a review over the 2014 MacBook
Air if you want to check that out I’ll leave that link in the description below. But it’s perfect for people always on the
go. It’s super portable and ultra mobile. If you don’t mind having a non-HD display. The MacBook Airs don’t come with a Retina
display which is kind of a bummer. That’s really its biggest drawback in my opinion,
so if you don’t care about that then it will be fine. If you care about battery life more than anything. The 13 inch MacBook Air has the longest battery
life out of all the Apple laptops, up to 12 hours with the MacBook Air 13 inch. So if you care about battery life then definitely
go with the MacBook Air. Also if you need to run typical everyday applications,
and even some light photo editing and light video editing as well. These MacBook Airs can handle that and also
if you still need access to Thunderbolt ports and USB ports and even an HD webcam, the MacBook
Air has all of those features. If any of those conditions seem like they
describe you in any way, I think the MacBook Air would be the best choice for you. And last but not least the MacBook Pro. Who is the MacBook Pro best for? Now this is going to just be the MacBook Pro
Retina. I’m not going to go over the old MacBook Pro
because that is running one of the old 5400 RPM drives and those are so outdated I don’t
even recommend those so this is just focusing on the Retina MacBook Pros. The MacBook Pro Retina comes in two different
sizes, 13 inch starting at $1299 or 15 inch starting at $1999. Both models have IPS Retina displays. The 13 inch has over 4 million pixels and
the 15 inch has over 5 million pixels. The 13 inch comes with 8 GB of RAM and can
be upgraded to 16 GB. The 15 inch comes with 16 GB standard. The 13 inch has 128 GB of flash storage and
can be upgraded to 256 or 512 GB. The 15 inch comes with 256 GB of flash storage
which can be upgraded to 512 GB. The 13 inch comes with the 5th Generation
core i5 dual core processors, which can be upgraded to an i7 and the 15 inch comes with
the 4th generation core i7 quad core processors. So who should buy the MacBook Pro Retina? Well first and foremost if you want the best
performance and the fastest speed, definitely get the MacBook Pro. It is the top of the line. It out performs all of the other MacBooks
and as the name implies, it is the pro model so if you care about performance over anything,
definitely get the MacBook Pro. If you plan to run processor intensive or
graphics intensive applications such as gaming, video editing, Photoshop, 3D modeling software,
CAD, virtual machines, anything like that, you’re going to want the MacBook Pro because
it will handle all those applications the best out of any MacBook. Also if you don’t mind having a laptop that’s
on the heavier side. The MacBook Pro is heavier than the MacBook
Air and the MacBook because obviously its bigger and it has more internals so if you
don’t mind having a little bit heavier laptop it will be fine. The MacBook Pro would be good for you. Also if you want to replace your desktop. If you want a laptop that has enough power
and performance to replace a desktop, the MacBook Pro would be the best for that because
it has all the ports you need along with the HDMI port to connect to your HDMI monitor. It has Thunderbolt ports, it has USB ports,
it has SD card slots so it can replace a desktop, plus it has great performance. So if you meet any or all of those conditions,
the MacBook Pro would be the best for you. Now which size should you get, the 13 inch
or the 15 inch? Well get the 13 inch if you want long battery
life, that new Force Touch Trackpad and the fastest read and write disk speeds. Get the 15 inch if you need that bigger display
and you want the best processor and best graphics performance. So that wraps up my buyers guide “Which Mac
Should You Buy?” I’ll leave links to every single MacBook mentioned
in this video (the MacBook, the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro) in the description below
so check those out and get the Mac that’s best for you. I hope this video helped you out. Make sure you check out my other reviews about
Apple products and I’ll be soon to be coming out with a review of one of the new MacBooks,
either the new MacBook or the new Retina MacBook Pro. Let me know which one you want me to review. Just leave a comment down below and give this
video a thumbs up and subscribe if you haven’t already. My name is Andy with and
I’ll talk to you guys in the next video. Bye.

  33. wishes_ from_stars says:

which macbook is the best for student,Macbook Air or Macbook pro 13???

  34. PowerL1N3 says:

    Andy Slye
    Ok so here's my deal. I have a 2011 15''MacBook Pro.

It wasn't booting up all the way and kept on shutting itself off so I thought it was a battery issue.
Got a new battery and still did the same thing.

Next I thought maybe I had to clean it out since I haven't cleaned it since I got it back in 2011.
So I opened it up cleaned everything and still kept turning off during boot up.

Next I noticed it was hot so maybe the thermal paste was really old on the CPU itself. So I went back in cleaned the old thermal paste off the CPU carefully and replaced it with Liquid metal thermal paste and hooked everything back up and it stayed on this time plus it felt cooler but then my hard drive wasn't booting up all the way and I couldn't get into Utilities to fix it nor was network recovery was working to fix it.

So I got a new 500gb SSD with two 8gb RAM sticks just to go ahead and update the ram. I put my OS on the new hard drive through a friend who also had a mac laptop because it needed to be partitioned and setup properly and it booted up successfully on his computer. So I put it in my laptop and it's booting up and then the screen glitches out with lines and then give me a blank gray screen the whole time.

So I check what's going on, on the inside again and notice that the liquid metal spilled on the outside of the CPU and I tried cleaning it but it keeps giving me the same results so it's pretty much done for.

So my only choices are getting a new motherboard with the same specs for my 2011 laptop.
Upgrading to a 2012 laptop with a higher Ghz rate and quad core for a faster CPU, also so I can add my SSD and my RAM sticks I already bought.
Selling the laptops parts and just investing in a MacBook Pro 15'' 2016 or 2017 model for better rendering times for video editing because I plan on creating my own YouTube channel and start making tutorial videos.

My question to you is, in my case what would you advise me to get that would benefit me? Because I really need a new laptop soon but I don't want to make the investment if it's not going to be worth it and I'm really going to work hard to make these videos quality and keep up with my uploads.

  35. Derek Falcon says:

I want a good screen but I also want something not so expensive I might get the air because I wanted a light thin computer I think I am going to save up for the Air

  36. Sydni Adams says:

Can the MacBook Pro 2015 run the Sims 4 without any lagging and without slowing down the computer? Can the 13 inch do that, or only the 15 inch? Any replies would be appreciated! 🙂

  37. Samuel Gómez Rodríguez says:

Hi Andy! the Macbook AIR has i5 5250U, 8Gb ddr3, 256 SSD, and the Pro has i5 5257U, 8Gb ddr3, 256 SSD now in 2017…. so almost equal characteristics, why pro is for profesional use and the air not?

  38. Che McCumskey says:

If your a music producer/dj get the pro. I found it works best

  39. abdul sammad says:

    still great in 2k17

The latest MacBook Pro 13” has a defect in design for the display and keyboard. There are scratches of keyboard prints on the display. That is because the display just touches the keyboard when the lid is closed and when traveling with it probably just squiz on the keyboard.
