Read Your Face Off Book Club & Read Along Announcement! [CC]

Hey everybody! Welcome back to my channel.
I have a dog looking for my attention right next to me so if you see random
paws, it’s just Poppy. She wants my attention. Today I’m going to be doing a
really fun announcement for you guys and that is an announcement of a book club that
I have started over on Goodreads. This book club is the Read Your Face Off book
club and it’s over on Goodreads like I said and I’m going to of course link it
down in the description and the main reason I started this book club is
because I wanted to do some read alongs on my channel as well as some monthly
buddy reads with people who, you know, comment on my channel, the people I”m
friends with in the Booktube community and just kind of have a place where we
can all read together. I know that there are a lot of book clubs like this out
there but I want to invite you all into this book club as well if you feel like
joining and maybe read some books with me. Buddy reading is one of my very
favorite things to do on this platform. I think it is so much fun and one of the
reasons why I love Booktube so much so that’s what started this Read Your Face
Off book club. So there are three main components of this book club. The first
you guys are already familiar with and that is the Read Your Face Off 24-hour
readathons. Becky from Beck’s Books made the
suggestion of potentially doing a Read Your Face Off 24 hour read-a-thon every
month and I love 24 hour read-a-thons. I think they’re a great way to kind of
kickstart your reading and I thought it was a great idea to do one every month.
So over on that Goodreads page I’m going to be making announcements of when the
next 24 hour read-a-thon will be. There’s an events tab in the group so you can
kind of see when the next round of the 24 hour read-a-thon will be. It will
likely always take place on a Saturday to Sunday and it will likely always be
9:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in your timezone. The next Read Your Face Off 24 hour
read-a-thon will be April 14th to 15th, 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. in your timezone. Of
course always use the hashtag #ReadYourFaceOff on Twitter and Instagram and
anywhere you’re posting updates. But if you want to know more about future
events, definitely check out the events section in the Goodreads group. The
second component is to do monthly buddy reads. Each month I would
love to work with the people inside the group to decide on what book that we
would read together in the following month and then discuss that with
everybody in the group. What will happen is I will put out a poll with four
different books on the poll of what we would be reading the following month.
I’ll close the poll about ten days before the end of the month so everybody
has a chance to acquire a copy whether that’s buying a copy or borrowing it
from the library or borrowing it from a friend but everybody will have a chance
to kind of put their vote in on what we will be reading and discussing in the
next month. For the month of May we are going to be voting between History is
All You Left me by Adam Silvera, We Are Okay by Nina Lacour, Warcross by Marie
Lu, and The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Sáenz.
I think I said that right. Andie tried to explain how to say it in a comment
and I don’t know if I said it correctly. I’m trying guys. I’m trying. And then the
third component, which is the main reason why I started this group, is to do read
alongs and I’ve had the idea of doing this particular read along, the inaugural
read along of this book club, for a while and I’ve been waiting for a good time to
announce it to you all and I feel like now is the perfect time to announce it
but I want to host a read-along of the Song of Ice and Fire series. If you
haven’t heard of Game of Thrones, the TV series, it’s one of my favorite TV
series. I feel like it’s very popular. It’s on HBO and there’s only one season
left of it and there isn’t really a release date. Usually the new season will
premiere in the spring or the summer every year and it’s been that way for
the last few years and this summer is the first time where
the season isn’t coming back. We’re still waiting for it to be created so I
thought to pass the time while we’re waiting for the next season, and final
season, of Game of Thrones to come out, why not read the series, the Song of Ice
and Fire series. This read along is going to start in May. There are currently 5
books released in the series. There is going to be seven but there’s currently
five out. Each book we’re gonna have two months to read through. These are pretty
heavy fantasy books and so I want to give people the
opportunity to really kind of savor and enjoy them. If you’re not familiar with
the story at all, it’s very complex and giving people two months to read through
each book is kind of what I want to do. I’m gonna post the schedule for the read
along right here on the screen so you guys can see, but starting in May we’re
going to be reading A Ggame of Thrones and you’ll have May and June of 2018 to
read that. The next book is A Clash of Kings and we’ll be reading that in July
and August. After that we have A Storm of Swords which will be September and
October. After that is A Feast for Crows which will be November and December and
then the last book that has been released in the series is A Dance with
Dragons which we’ll read in January and February. There will be a discussion
thread for each one of the five books and I broke down the chapters of
discussion to about every hundred pages or so, so you don’t get spoiled just by
clicking on. We’ll have different sections that you can discuss throughout
the book. I figured this is kind of the easiest way to discuss the series, and at
the end of each two-month period I’m going to be doing a live show here on
this channel and we can kind of talk about it. It’s just giving us another
opportunity to kind of discuss the book as a whole.
I’ll also make an event on the book club page and announce it on Twitter when
those live shows will be. It will probably be early on in the month
following the end of the reading of one of the books, if that makes sense. So for
example we’ll read A Game of Thrones in May and June, the live show will probably
be early July. And yeah that’s all of the details for this Goodreads group and
book club, the Read Your Face Off book club. I’m very excited about it. I hope
you guys will join me again all the links are gonna be in the description so
please come in and hang out. It’s gonna be a super low-key kind of
choose-your-own-adventure kind of book club. You can participate in some months
and not others, some read alongs and not others. It’s really all up to you. It’s
very low-key and that’s just kind of the vibe of Read Your Face Off. Just read
as much as you can, right? Again I hope you guys join me and I hope
you guys enjoyed this video. If you did please leave a big thumbs up. Subscribe
if you haven’t already. I do try to make a new video each and every week and I
will see you guys again very soon. Bye!

Yusssssssss this sounds like so much fun! I don't know if I'll participate in the book club portion this time, but I'm most likely join in for the A Song of Ice and Fire readalong! I need to reread the whole thing before Winds of Winter comes out, which, I mean, no rush or anything XD

I'm also interested to see how this goes. I've kind of been playing around with my own book club idea but I'm not quite sure how I'd pull it off. I will be taking notes…. 😉

  2. JustPassingThrough says:

I just created a goodreads account for the sole purpose of joining this group. Thanks!

  3. Maria Rudebeck says:

Im now reading "My grandmother asked me to tell you she´s sorry" because of what you said 🙂

AAAAAH THIS IS EXCITING!! I’ve always wanted to be part of a book club but I’ve never been able to find one where they’re picking books I’m interested in!

  6. Shannon Ridler says:

Ohhhhh this all sounds super excited! Especially the Song of Ice and Fire readalong. I tried reading the series a few times and I am not stalled in A Clash of Kings, but this sounds delightful to read together! What a fun idea! I'll be curious to see what the first pic of the buddy read is!

This is really cool. I don't think I'll be joining the ASOIAF readalong, as I already have read the first 3 books. Maybe if I still haven't started Feast for Crow by November, I'll join you on those last 2 books 🙂
I'll join the book club if the book is one I have access to/wanted to read anyway. I may jump in on the actual readathon this month as well, even though there's Dewey's by the end of the month.
