On Location: Main Library Learning Commons

Hi I’m Allison and I’m On Location at the new Main Library Learning Commons. Open 24 hours a day, the Learning Commons is a flexible, comfortable place for 500 students to study. This 37,000 square foot facility just opened on August 26th with the start of the fall semester and is a major upgrade to the University of Iowa’s Main Library, a collaboration between the Libraries, ITS, and the Provost. You can bring your own laptop – there are plenty of electrical outlets, or you can use one of the approximately 100 computers on site. There are 18 group study rooms designed for collaboration. One of the coolest features is the wall in the group study room is writable on the frosted glass panels. You can also plug your laptop into one of the 52 inch or 80 inch monitors in the group spaces, convenient for working on group projects. The facility includes a newly remodeled Food for Thought café where you can get gourmet coffees, made-to-order sandwiches, fruit smoothies, watch TV, and study. Make sure to check out the Main Library’s new Learning Commons if you are looking for a new place to study, or even to get a nice cup of coffee. Until next time, I’m Allison.
