“WE MAKE BETTER ANIMALS AND ANIMALS MAKE BETTER PEOPLE”. SO THERE’S THAT CONNECTION THERE. WE FEEL PROUD TO BE PART OF THAT. THE KNOWLEDGE AND SERVICE, THAT IS THE TWO THINGS THAT WE LIKE TO FOCUS ON. SO IF SOMEONE HAS A QUESTION OR IS A NEW ANIMAL OWNER, THAT THEY’LL BE ABLE TO COME TO ANY OF OUR LOCATIONS. WE’LL BE ABLE TO HELP THEM. [♪♪] YOU CAN ALWAYS SEE MORE OZARKS PROFESSIONALS ON www.OzarksFirst.com. Joy: ALL RIGHT. IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN OUTSIDE TODAY, YOU HAVE MISSED OUT. AM I RIGHT? Guest: IT’S TRUE. Guest: IT’S BEAUTIFUL. Joy: YOU SHOULD CONSIDER GRABBING A GOOD BOOK, SITTING OUTSIDE. REMEMBER A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, WE ANNOUNCED WE’RE GOING TO START A BOOK CLUB HERE ON “OZARKS LIVE!.” ONCE AGAIN, CONRAD AND MIRANDA FROM THE SPRINGFIELD-GREENE COUNTY LIBRARY ARE BACK. I’M EXCITED BECAUSE I AM HITTING YOU UP TO FIND OUT ABOUT THESE BOOKS. Guest: THAT’S RIGHT. Joy: YOU’VE GOT FOUR GREAT TITLES ALL OF YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO PUT ON YOUR WAIT LIST, HOLD LIST, I’M SURE. WE’RE GOING TO START WITH ONE YOU BROUGHT. ACTUALLY, THIS MAIN CHARACTER, YOU’LL LIKE THIS, HIS OCCUPATION IS TO TRAVEL AROUND AND RECITING FROM NEWSPAPERS AROUND THE WORLD. Joy: HE GIVES PEOPLE THE KIDNAPPED FIVE YEARS AGO BY INDIANS. SO YES. SO IT HAS EVERYTHING THAT I LIKE ABOUT WESTERNS. IT HAS THIS UNLIKELY FRIENDSHIP MOMENTSES AND QUIET IN OTHER MOMENTS. THAT’S WHY I LIKE IT. IT HAS EVERYTHING. Joy: IT’S INTRIGUING TO THINK OF THIS MAN WHO IS TRAVELING AND DOING WHAT HE DOES. AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN, HE GETS ASKED TO TAKE A TEN YEAR-OLD. IT’S LIKE WHAT? HOW DOES THAT WORK? IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A MOVIE IN THE MAKING. Guest: ACTUALLY, I BELIEVE TOM HANKS PURCHASED THE RIGHTS TO THE FILM. SO WE CAN MAYBE EXPECT A TOM HANKS MOVIE OUT OF THIS ONE. Joy: SOMETHING ABOUT “PAPER MOON”. IT REMINDS ME OF THAT. I DON’T KNOW WHY. THE YOUNG GIRL. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT BOOK. THAT’S NUMBER ONE. “NEWS OF THE WORLD”. WE’RE GOING TO CONTINUE WITH YOU, MIRANDA. THIS IS KIND OF A BOOK WITHIN A BOOK. “THE MAG PIE MURDERS”. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS BOOK? IT’S A BIG, THICK BOOK. IT IS. IT’S KIND OF TWO FOR ONE HERE. I LIKE AN INTERESTING FORMAT. SO THIS, LIKE YOU SAID, A MYSTERY WRAPPED INSIDE A MYSTERY. SO WE START WITH AN EDITOR OF A PUBLISHING COMPANY WHO GETS A MANUSCRIPT TO THE NEXT NOVEL IN A VERY POPULAR MYSTERY SERIES. SHE STARTS TO READ IT, AND AS SHE STARTS TO READ IT, WE ARE TAKEN ALONG ON THE RIDE WITH HER AND WE DELVE INTO THE STORY. IN A SLEEPY ENGLISH VILLAGE. Joy: AND THEN? Guest: WE GET RIPPED OUT OF THE STORY AND BACK TO THE WRITER’S LIFE TO ANOTHER MYSTERY. IT’S GREAT FOR ANYBODY WHO LIKES AGATHA CHRISTIE NOVELS, LIKE CLASSIC WHO-DUN-IT. Joy: THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN. THERE’S A MISSING CHAPTER. I’M NOT GOING TO GIVE AWAY MORE. IF YOU LIKE A GOOD MYSTERY, YOU’LL LIKE THIS BOOK. IT’S VERY MYSTERY ABOUT A MYSTERY. Joy: CONRAD, IT’S YOUR TURN. I LOVE THE TITLE. “PAPERBACKS FROM HELL”. Guest: IT’S A DANG GOOD TIME! [LAUGHTER] Joy: I’M SURE IT IS. TELL ME ABOUT “PAPERBACKS FROM HECK”. THIS SOUNDS LIKE TOO MUCH FUN. Guest: I WAS INSPIRED BY MIRANDA’S RECOMMENDATION LAST TIME INVOLVING KILLER MERMAIDS. BUT THERE ARE SOME GOOD GEMS IN IT. SO BRADY HENDRICKS, SIFTED THROUGH ALL OF THE PUBLICATIONS FROM THE ’70s AND ’80s TO KIND OF TELL YOU LIKE WHAT THERE WAS. AND WHY THERE WERE CERTAIN TRENDS IN THE PUBLISHING. BUT ALSO WHAT THOSE REALLY GOOD BOOKS ARE. AND SO WHY I BROUGHT THIS IS BECAUSE VALENCORT BOOKS, A SMALL NEST” BY GREGORY A. DOUGLAS. IT’S A QUAINT STORY ABOUT A CAPE COD TOWN THAT GETS TAKEN OVER BY MUTANT, GIANT EATING COCKROACHES. Joy: REALLY! Guest: THE OTHER PART OF THE SERIES IS GOING TO HAVE EVIL WE CAN GET IT IN THE LIBRARY. THERE’S A LOT OF GREAT STUFF OUT THERE. Joy: THIS IS A WHOLE BOOK. I OPENED TO COMA. REMEMBER “COMA”? THAT WAS A MOVIE AND BOOK ALSO. THIS IS FULL OF PICTURES. IF NOTHING ELSE, THIS WILL BE NOSTALGIC. Guest: THERE’S A LOT OF NOSTALGIA. Joy: IF YOU GREW UP DURING THAT TIME AND YOU SAY I REMEMBER THAT. IF YOU WENT SHOP CAN AND YOU’RE LIKE MOM, BUY ME THIS BOOK! NO. YOU’RE TOO YOUNG! YOU CAN’T HAVE IT. Guest: I RAN INTO THAT ALL THE TIME. Joy: THIS IS THE COOLEST THING. SPEAKING OF PAPER BACKS, THERE IS ONE CALLED “PAPERBACK CRUSH”, THE RADICAL HISTORY OF ’80s AND ’90s, TEEN FICTION. Guest: IT’S ALMOST A COMPANION PIECE. THEY PUBLISH BOOKS YOU DIDN’T KNOW NEEDED TO BE IN THE WORLD BUT THE WORLD NEEDED DESPERATELY. WERE THESE TRENDS IN TEEN PUBLISHING. AND THE REALLY GOOD BOOKS LIKE “THE FACE ON THE MILK CARTON”, WHICH I REMEMBER DISTINCTLY AND HAUNTED ME FOR YEARS. Joy: I DON’T REMEMBER THAT ONE. Guest: BASICALLY, THIS GIRL IS SITTING AT LUNCH AND SEES HER FACE ON A MILK CARTON OF A KIDNAPPED GIRL AND REALIZES IT WAS HER. Joy: OH, MY GOODNESS! Guest: SHE GOES ON THIS JOURNEY TO FIND OUT WHO SHE IS AND WHO HER REAL PARENTS ARE. IT TURNED INTO A FIVE-BOOK SERIES. AND IT’S JUST VERY GOOD. BUT ANYWAY… Joy: I NEVER KNEW I WANTED TO READ A TEEN NOVEL UNTIL NOW. Guest: YEAH, OH, YOU DO. THEY’RE GREAT. Joy: I LIKED THE “NANCY DREWS”, THOSE WERE GOOD. BUT WOW. Guest: AGAIN, IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR MORE THINGS TO READ IN YOUR TEEN LID AND WANT TO CATCH UP ON YOUR “SWEET VALLEY HIGH”. Joy: THIS IS INTERESTING. FOUR REALLY GOOD BOOKS. YOU GET BOOKS FOR FREE. YOU CAN LOG IN AND PUT THEM ON YOUR WAIT LIST. DO YOU GET A LOT OF PEOPLE JUST SHOPPING FOR A GOOD BOOK? OR DO MOST PEOPLE DO LIKE ME AND PUT ONE ON THE LIST? Guest: THE BEST THING IS TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF BOTH. TAKE SOMETHING RIGHT NOW. AND THEN, YOU KNOW, IF YOU’VE GOT YOUR LIST OF BOOKS YOU’RE TRYING TO FIND, YOU CAN’T FIND A BOOK AND LOOKING FOR SOMETHING NEW, EVERYONE AT THE REFERENCE DESK IS REALLY GOOD AND CAN SUGGEST WHAT YOU SHOULD READ NEXT. Joy: THERE’S PERIODICALS, NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES. AND THE INTERNET ACCESS AND EVERYTHING. AS YOU CAN TELL, I’M A HUGE FAN OF THE LIBRARY. I ADORE IT! AND I THANK YOU ALL FOR BRINGING THESE TO OUR ATTENTION. BECAUSE IF YOU HAVEN’T PICKED UP A GOOD BOOK LATELY, YOU SHOULD BECAUSE IT’S SO MUCH FUN TO GET LOST IN IT. THANK YOU, CONRAD AND MIRANDA. LOOK FORWARD TO DOING IT AGAIN IN A COUPLE WEEKS. Guest: YES. Joy: WE WANT TO THANK ANGELA
