Feature Feature: Online Books Catalog

Did you know that our library has a searchable
online catalog? This is Sarah from Center for the Blind and
it’s time for a FEATURE FEATURE. Our website has a lot to offer. Today I’ll be talking about one of those features:
the catalog. To reach the catalog, first you’ll need to
visit www.blind.ag.org. Then, in the links menu, you’ll need to choose
Resources and Services. And then choose Search Lending Library. You’ll notice that in the middle of the page
there is a place where you can type in your search criteria. You can also search by title, author, or summary. Let’s just say that I’d like to check out
a book on prayer. So I enter in that criteria. Now, I could either choose to search by Title,
or by summary. In this case, I’m going to go with Title. And I click Find. Now you can see that I’ve got several pages
of results. So I’m going to scroll down and look at a
few of these results and see if there’s anything that catches my attention. You can see in this list that we have the
book number, the title, the summary, the author, and then the format in which the book is available. So I’m looking at this down here that says
Connecting Through Prayer. And it says that it’s a severn day devotional
and I think that sounds kind of interesting. And it’s available in Braille, which I read. So, I’m going to click this little check box
at the very left of this entry to indicate that I would like to check that out. And I wait and then the page refreshes itself. And you can see that I have selected this
book. And it tells me that I have one book selected. So, I could search for more items by clicking
the link that says New Search or I could continue looking at my list that I already have here
and add some more books to my check out bag but I’m not going to do that today. I’m just going to go ahead and say that I’m
satisfied with this one selection so I will choose Checkout at the top of my list. Then it takes me to a page that will show
me the full list of what I’ve chosen to check out. An then it will give me a form that I need
to fill out in order to check out the books that I want. Just in case you are wondering, there is also
on this page an opportunity to remove the book. In the list of books that are selected for
me to check out, over to the right of each item, there’s a check box that says Remove. So, if I’ve accidentally checked on one that
I decide I don’t really want, I can just click the Remove check box. So, once I’ve previewed my list and made sure
everything is how I’d like it to be, then I can come down here and fill out this information
and then I will just need to click Finalize. And there you go. My list has been submitted to the librarian. She will look at it, she will pull the books
from the shelf, she will check them out to my account, and she will put them in a box
and mail them to my house. I really hope you enjoyed this Feature Feature. If you have any questions about the resources
