Students across the country and around the world use BYU Independent Study to further their education. And our courses meet their needs in a variety of ways. Some students want to take advanced courses to graduate early or specialized courses that may not be offered at their school. I needed both chemistry and physics to get ready for college. The high school I went to was really small. And there were a lot of classes that they didn’t teach. So to get those college prep. classes, I took BYU Independent Study. I actually took the courses on a computer in the library. It was either that, or wait till the summer and travel about 30 miles to another highschool everyday, Which I didn’t want to do. Anyway, the courses are really good and I finish them and I was all set. Taking those quizzes online was a real lifesaver for me. Because of illness or other challenges other high School students have problems graduating ontime. I was in a car accident at the start of my Junior year of high school. After I got out of the hospital, I was way behind in my school work. During the last part of my recovery, I started to do BYU Independent Study to make up some of my credits. It was really hard because I got tired sometimes and had to pace myself but the courses were really clear and not hard to follow. So by the end of my senior year I was all caught up. It made it so I could graduate with the rest of my class. Some college bound use Independent Study to make up deficiencies in high school credits. Many more university students benefit from the scheduling flexibility our courses provide. When your going to school and working and everything else, it’s hard to do it all. Independent Study lets you take classes on your own time. Maybe you need a prerequisite and the class is full. Or maybe you need to retake a class for a better grade. When you take a class online, you can go as fast or as slow as you want. As a student, Independent Study just gives you more control over your life. Some students return to college after many years and use Independent Study to persue a university degree. I had to find a way to go back to school and do it on my own time. And then, when I ran into challenges, I could send this email at three in the morning or ten o’clock at night or whatever time and get a response back with the person who wrote the course and so it was the best of both worlds being able to move at the pace I needed but yet get the professors input when I needed it. In order to be able to understand the specifics of the course so I could move forward. BYU Independent Study. We’re here for you. The supplemental curriculum, scheduling flexibility educational alternitives. It’s all about learning.
