AppTV: Kindle Tips

– Welcome back to AppTV,
I’m Tasia Custode. The rise of e-readers has
come fast and furious, and their convenience has a lot
to do with their popularity. (upbeat music) Join me, Tasia Custode, – [Gary] And me, Gary Steeves, – [Tasia] for another episode of AppTV. There’s a lot to love
about Amazon’s Kindle app. It’s available across all
iOS and Android devices, you can download up to 10 free books at a time if you’re a Prime member, your content is available across multiple devices, I could go on and on. But one of my favorite
features of the Kindle app is that it’s compatible with VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android, turning a plain old book into an audiobook for those with accessibility needs. You don’t even have to worry about using an audio companion like Audible. So, I’m using my iPhone
with VoiceOver enabled, so here’s how to listen to
a book with the Kindle app. Because the app is
compatible with VoiceOver, all you have to do is
open the app and select the book you’d like to
have read aloud to you. As soon as you tap on a book preview, VoiceOver reads aloud the book title, author, whether it’s a
new release, and more. Double-tap to open your book of choice. If you’re opening the
book for the first time, you’ll have an About
This Book section pop up. You can either scroll
through this section, or tap the X in the top right corner of the pop-up, and double-tap to close. Now, you’re in the book
view, and officially reading, or should I say, listening to the book. Swipe down with two fingers
to have VoiceOver read aloud. – [Computer Voice] Chapter
one, The Boy Who Lived, Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of
number four, Privet Drive. – [Tasia] If you do this,
VoiceOver flips the pages automatically, so it’s a
more efficient way to read. Single-tap with two
fingers to stop reading. So, I’ll admit, sometimes it would be nice to listen to the author’s voice, as opposed to the standard
VoiceOver or TalkBack voice, but this is still a great free way to listen to your Kindle books. I love a fully-accessible app. For more AppTV tips and
